Barry Schwarts talks about how we often go against common sense in order to follow rules and procedure. This is really worth watching:

I've just finished reading Mark Bittman's new book Food Matters. It's half cookbook, half commentary on modern food production -- how to eat what Michael Pollan preaches.
The environmental and societal issues addressed in the book are outlined by Bittman in this great TED talk:

When choosing a playlist for a root canal, there are at least two directions one can take. The first is something chill, like Boards of Canada. The second would be to embrace the whole thing and go with led zep. (Appropriate, since "getting the led out" kind of sounds like a dental procedure.) I think I'll go with the latter -- it jibes with the fuck-all feeling you get from signing that waver that's required for anything more involved than a filling.
UPDATE: While not the most pleasant experience in the world, a root canal should not be feared. I'd never had one before, and you hear horror stories, but really you don't feel much. I guess if needles really freak you out...
There's not really any mind-numbing pain. However, you have to sit there for hours, it's pretty uncomfortable and I'm sure it will be sore when the anesthetic wears off. Take care of your teeth kids.
